about
Although its title might suggest otherwise, the new EP by Katadreuffe is by no means a declaration of finality. Nor is it a definitive statement in terms of identity. If anything, it is an expression of powerlessness; a temporary exercise in resignation; a subjective subjection subject to change.
And while this might seem to point to a dismissal of all responsibility, Katadreuffe have done just the opposite by keeping the EP’s realization as close to home as possible. This has resulted in a collection of four songs which represent the band’s character in its most immediate and versatile form. At times straightforward and unforgiving, the music will just as easily twist and turn in the comforts of its own surroundings. And while the band willingly refuses to let go of the inherent tension between instruments, the songs retain a feeling of keeping their options open, as if meaning to say, albeit in its best possible connotation and in all its ambiguous glory: this isn’t it. Period.
